What is sustainable fashion?
With concerns increasing amongst consumers over the incredible amounts of waste being produced around the world, the term “sustainability” has become somewhat of a buzzword in the media and a huge topic of conversation.
The sustainability movement has been taken more seriously over the last year, with the ban against plastic bag pioneering the way for a more eco-conscious shopping experience. Now the fashion and retail industries are jumping on board with sustainable fashion - a part of the growing movement towards environmental and social sustainability.
The ultimate goal is to ideally create a system, which can be supported by consumers to reduce our impact on the planet and contribute positively to our peers and our society.
At Swingactive, our promise is to source new, innovative and sustainable ways to ensure we have active wear you look and feel great in.
As a business we pride ourselves on having a supply chain model that demonstrates end-to-end sustainability. All of our fabrics are sourced locally here in Australia, meaning our clothes have fewer “clothing miles”, a term coined when fabrics are freighted around the world and back again, producing more greenhouse gas emissions and climate concerns. We also ensure that only the amount of fabric required is printed in an effort to reduce waste. Having these small production runs also means we can respond to demand in the most efficient way, which means we can be more in touch with you – our customers.
It is so important to us that ethics and values are behind the production of our clothes. We don’t just have the environment in mind – our Melbourne manufacturer employs staff according to established fair work practices so that our “sisters” who bring our designs to life, are paid an acceptable wage and work in modern, safe and clean working conditions.
We hope that you feel proud to wear our clothes, just as we are proud to know they have been made ethically. Here’s to supporting environmental and social sustainability!
